Forget Goals. Focus on This Instead.
I know what it feels like to be results-driven. Focused on goals. Fixated on outcomes.
It gives you direction. It fuels your ambition.
And when you hit the goal? You get that short-lived sense of success… before immediately moving on to the next thing.
Is that how it’s supposed to work?
This constant cycle of chasing and achieving can be exciting — but it’s also exhausting.
It can leave you feeling like no matter how much you do, it’s never quite enough.
There is a better way.
One that brings more energy, more clarity, more fulfilment — and often leads to even better outcomes.
👉 It’s a mindset shift: from focusing on outcomes to focusing on progress.
Progress isn’t the same as outcomes.
Progress is about getting better today than you were yesterday.
It’s about showing up, learning, growing, and keeping momentum — even when things don’t go as planned.
It’s about resilience. Openness. Trusting the journey.
I’ve seen this clearly through my twins’ journey in Taekwondo.
They started at 8 years old as white belts. Now, at 17, they’re third Dan black belts.
Yes, the belt is the outcome. But the real success lies in the progress made at every training session.
It’s not about talent — it’s about commitment, growth, and the spirit to keep going.
Anyone can do it. And that’s the beauty of progress.
When I shifted my own focus from outcomes to progress, everything changed.
As a strategic marketer, I was trained to fixate on the end result.
But that kind of thinking can become rigid. It narrows your vision.
It creates unnecessary pressure — especially when the outcome depends on external factors or others’ decisions.
Progress, on the other hand, is something you can control.
Every day. Every step. Every lesson.
And over time?
Progress leads to the outcomes you want — and often to even better ones you didn’t see coming.
I’ve lived this shift. And I see it in my clients too.
One of them was recently nominated for a prestigious industry award. A beautiful recognition of her work.
She had the opportunity to strengthen her nomination with a short video — but she hesitated.
She doubted herself. She found excuses. She nearly didn’t do it.
But she pushed through. She recorded the video. And something shifted.
The win wasn’t just submitting the nomination — it was her stepping up, owning her value, and embracing her growth.
That moment of progress gave her more confidence than any external validation ever could.
And that’s what happens when you focus on progress.
✨ You build real confidence
✨ You strengthen your resilience
✨ You reduce stress
✨ You stay open to better, often unexpected, outcomes
✨ And you enjoy the journey so much more
Here’s how to make it practical:
Ask yourself these two simple questions every day:
What was my biggest win today?
What was my biggest learning today?
And if you want to go a step further:
What am I most proud of today?
These questions rewire your focus towards growth.
